At the ongoing Computex 2016 in Taipei, Taiwan, chip major Intel has announced its most powerful desktop processor, Core i7-6950X Extreme Edition. This is Intel's first 10-core desktop processor for consumers and it costs a whopping $1,723, which roughly translates to around Rs 1,15,880.
Designed for the extreme performance needs, the Intel Core i7 processor Extreme Edition delivers up to 10 cores and 20 threads, 40 PCIe lanes, and a new Intel Turbo Boost Max Technology 3.0. It is clocked at 3GHz, featuring boost speeds of up to 3.5GHz, packs in 25MB of cache memory and quad-channel memory improves responsiveness and decreases startup time.
"The new Intel Turbo Boost Max Technology 3.0 steers applications to the highest-performing core, improving single-threaded performance by up to 15%," said the company. Intel will also offer its Extreme Edition processors in 8-core and 6-core versions- Core i7-6900K, Core i7-6850K, Core i7-6800K. All processors are fully unlocked for performance tuning. Other features include: Intel Hyper-Threading Technology, supports LGA 2011-v3 socket, Intel Ready Mode Technology, and X99 chipset compatibility.
"The Intel Core i7 processor ExtremeEdition has up to 35% better 3D rendering performance for vivid 4K gameplay while accomplishing other compute-intensive tasks in the background. A new era in virtual reality has also begun and achieving the premium VR experiences delivered by the leading head-mounted displays on the market requires powerful PCs for both consuming and creating VR content," said the company.
