One of the world's leading Technology giant Sony has formed a new company that will be dedicated fully to make games for mobile and smart devices. The newly formed company has been named as ForwardWorks, which is set to officially open its doors on April 1.

Sony didn't announce any specific games but said in a statement that ForwardWorks will leverage PlayStation franchises and characters. Right now the games are planned for release in Japan and Asia only. It's possible they'll be extended to the west in the future, but that wasn't announced. "The company will aim to deliver users the opportunity to casually enjoy full-fledged game titles in the new field of the smart device market," Sony said in its statement.

Atsushi Morita, who served as president of Sony Computer Entertainment Japan, will serve as ForwardWorks president. This is not the first time Sony has attempted a push on to smartphones and tablets. In 2012, the company launched PlayStation Mobile. Games worked on devices such as PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita. The PlayStation Mobile didn't garner much-needed attention so it was locked down last year.
