Whatsapp, a biggest and fancy messaging platform, owned by the Facebook has hit the mark of 1 billion users. Facebook's Chief Mark Zuckerberg revealed in a post on his Facebook page that, "One billion people now use WhatsApp. There are only a few services that connect more than a billion people."
The social networking site, facebook has acquired the Whatsapp earlier in 2014 for a whopping of $19 billion dollars. After the indulgement of two years, it has grown to become one of the most widely used communication platforms in the world. Mark Zuckerberg made the announcement congratulating co-founders of Whatsapp Jan Koum and Brian Acton.
Facebook CEO mentioned in his post, " WhatsApp's community has more than doubled since joining Facebook. We've added the ability for you to call loved ones far away. We've dropped the subscription fee and made WhatsApp completely free. Next, we're going to work to connect more people around the world and make it easier to communicate with businesses."
"That's nearly one-in-seven people on Earth who use WhatsApp each month to stay in touch with their loved ones, their friends and their family," the WhatsApp team said in a blog post. "From sharing vital information during natural disasters or health emergencies, finding a date, growing a small business, buying an engagement ring, or seeking a better life."
After weaving the Whatsapp, Facebook made the service completely free, is to make easier to use the service to communicate with the business.
As per the stats of the WIRED Magzine, Whatsapp has currently 990 million active users at the present time. Whatsapp face a big competition from WeChat, which has a 500 million users.
"Other apps have focused on monetization, games and stickers but WhatsApp's appeal is that it is light on monetization and it has now dropped its small annual fee completely".
