WhatsApp Rumoured To Soon Launch Its desktop Version

The Facebook-owned WhatsApp, With over one billion users, is undoubtedly the most popular chat application of recent time. Although WhatsApp can be accessed on PC through a web client running in the browser, it’s largely used on smartphones only. According to The Times Of India, you could soon be able to use all of WhatsApp’s features (e.g. text messaging, file sharing) from your PC. Information has surfaced online suggesting that WhatsApp might be working on a full-fledged desktop application for Windows and Mac operating systems.

A Twitter account (not affiliated with WhatsApp) tracking changes in WhatsApp’s beta builds recently tweeted images having references to WhatsApp’s desktop application being developed for the desktop. Even though it’s possible to use WhatsApp on a PC through your browser, it’s a very limited and an inconvenient method. To use WhatsApp’s web client, your phone should be connected to the Internet. Moreover, this method requires the browser to always remain open.

A full-fledged desktop application could make it possible to use WhatsApp’s important features like document sharing and voice calls without requiring a smartphone to be connected to the Internet all the time. It would also remove the need for having a browser window open at all times. WhatsApp will be soon rolling out new features such as voice mail and the ability to share zip files for iOS and Android users.
