Microsoft has recently made an announcement that its latest operating system i.e. Windows 10 is running on more than 300 Million devices across the globe. It works on all kinds of devices including desktops, laptops, smartphones, Xbox One console, etc. One of the main reasons for this speed of adoption is that it has offered Windows 10 free upgrade till July 29, 2016. Later, it will be made available for purchase separately as well as it will come as a pre-installed facility with the new devices.
As per Mr Yusuf Mehdi, Corporate Vice President, Windows & Devices Group, "We're seeing people at home, at schools, at small businesses, at large companies, and other organisations adopt Windows 10 faster than ever, and use Windows 10 more than ever before."
Microsoft is hoping that this new version could be integrated to a wide range of devices so as to stay ahead of its rivals like Google Android and Apple iOS. Even though Microsoft already dominates the personal computer software market, the case is not the same with smartphones.
The revealed figure of 300 Million encompasses new devices powered by Windows 10 along with the upgrades in existing gadgets. The company has set a target to have this operating system installed in more than 1 Billion devices by the year 2018.
This would put it in an equivalent position of Apple, which has already reached this milestone this year. Moreover, Microsoft is also planning to come up with an “Anniversary Update” of its operating system to introduce it as a powerful educational tool in classrooms.
