The growing use of smart phones has made the youth applications oriented. Today people find it easier to send text messages from their smart phone application. Samsung, Sony and BlackBerry companies have launched latest technology powered phone so people are switching to applications and message tools like Whatsapp and BlackBerry Messenger with social media like Twitter and Facebook.
The 'person to person messaging' from Vodafone India has dropped by 22% from Rs.617.4 crore to Rs.481.6 crore in the first half of this year. The companies are worrying with the regulatory curbs as the problem of accounting for 75% of SMS count have accentuated. The market in urban area of the country has added new platforms by social messaging and in next two years the revenue is going to close to 40-50%.
India’s largest telecom service provider Airtel has also seen the drop in messaging revenues. The ratio of non-voice messages and value-added services has down the total part to 10%. The banned from Trai and other rules have also caused the SMS drop. The growing popularity of smart-phones has made this revenue at its lower era.
