FDI will help Farmers says Prime Minister

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has quoted that the move on calling FDI in retail market will be very beneficial for farmers. It will help them to use latest technologies in agriculture market. After approval of FDI by Parliament he said that this decision was supported by farmers and organizations in Punjab.

He was speaking as a chief guest in golden jubilee function at Punjab Agriculture University; he said that FDI will be very helpful in terms of new technology in agriculture. He was honored with Doctor of Science in the same university.

The controversial decision of allowing FDI was won by the Government yesterday where it was defeated in Rajya Sabha and BSP voted in favor of UPA. 123 members of Parliament were against the motion and 109 voted in favor. After a debate the opposite party was against the move of 51% investment of FDI in retail.

PM also asked for gearing up the challenges in agriculture industry. He said that it needs to develop new ways of infrastructure that has to be beneficial for the country.
