Tata Motors is going to launch their new mini SUV car and diesel model of Tata Nano. But it will take 12 to 18 months more. Company's passenger car portfolio is getting down and its Pipari plant in Pune has taken the place for commercial vehicle manufacturing. This plant makes commercial vehicles like trucks and buses etc. Company has concentrated only on commercial vehicle production whose loss is faced by passenger car business of Tata Motors.
The last launched cars by the company were Indica in 1998 and Nano in 2008 but Nano was not popular as Indica. It is facing tough competition from companies like Maruti and Hyundai so the image of Tata is getting down in the domestic market. Now the company is planning to make a new SUV to concentrate on its car manufacturing business.
After 2008, it has not launched any passenger car and there is heavy discount on car business since 18 months. Now the company is trying to improve the portfolio of passenger cars. The mini SUV is preparing to be launched and the diesel model of Nano will also in the market soon.
The research and development head of Tata Motors Tim Levturn said that they are trying to develop a thing which will get high popularity in the market in coming days but it will take 12-18 months. He said that the company will invest Rs.75 billion in 5 upcoming years in its passenger car market.
