As per the announcement by Volkswagen India, the India launch of the all-new Passat is scheduled on October 10, 2017. Also, the production of this luxury sedan has also been commenced at its Aurangabad facility as confirmed by the company. Discontinued in 2014 from Indian lineup, the upcoming Passat that is the eighth generation model is going to relaunch here with Volkswagen’s MQB platform. Other models that also underpins mentioned platform includes the VW Tiguan, the Skoda Octavia, Kodiaq and Superb. Here it is likely to go on sale at the price sticker of INR 30 lakh.
The plug-in hybrid version of the forthcoming Passat has already marked its presence in front of Indian audience at the 2016 Auto Expo. in rivalry, the trim has the opponents such as Toyota Camry, Honda Accord and Skoda Superb in the market.
Mechanically, the new saloon will be packed with a 2.0L 4-cylinder TDI diesel engine that is expected to churn out the maximum power of 174bhp via a mated 6-speed DSG automatic transmission. Whereas, the plug-in-hybrid variant of the same comes packed with a 1.4L turbocharged petrol unit in integration with an electric motor that propels out the combined power output of 215bhp along with 400Nm. While the transmission duties are the concern of a 6-speed DSG automatic gearbox for this variant. As of now, the carmaker did not reveal anything about the launch of petrol or manual variant of the all-new Volkswagen.

Dimensionally, the new MQB-based Passat is 13mm less in length (4,767mm), 12mm wider (1,832mm) and 13mm shorter (1,456mm) than its predecessor. However, with 80mm longer wheelbase at 2,791mm, the new saloon offers more legroom for the rear seat passengers. Underpinning MQB platform, the Passat that would be the Volkswagen’s flagship product is around 80kgs lighter than the older model.
