Chevrolet Beat Essentia to be Launched in India in March 2017

First displayed at the 2016 Auto Expo as a concept unit alongside the Beat Activ Crossover, the Chevrolet Essentia compact sedan is now reported to be launched in March next year. Both the units will share their platform with next generation Beat hatchback which is also slated to be released sometime next year and as the reports suggest, it might happen before the debut of said units. The company has already started testing this vehicle and a prototype of the same was also spied near in Pune.

As per the images which show a highly camouflaged mule, the car seems to retain same design cues and features as of its concept version under all the cladding. Further, the design of the Essentia is also claimed to be extracted in GM Korea Design Studio in order to give special treatment as well as to better suit the taste of the Indian buyers. Many of its components will be inspired by its hatchback sibling altogether with several elements from the next-gen Spark that was globally unwrapped last year.

Inside the cabin, the Chevrolet Beat Essentia compact sedan is expected to flaunt more or less same design and features with new generation Beat. Moreover, it will possibly come out with Chevy’s latest MyLink touchscreen infotainment system as standard across all the variants. For safety, it will house dual airbags, reverse camera and ABS as well.

Nothing has been officially disclosed about the powertrain, but, the Chevrolet Essentia compact sedan is believed to be featured with both petrol and diesel engine options. While the former derivative is likely to be powered by a 1.2-litre SMARTECH 4-cylinder unit that pumps out 76 Bhp and 106 Nm of peak torque, the latter will be fitted with a 1.0-litre SMARTECH 3-cylinder engine that can propel the vehicle with a good enough power of 56 Bhp along with a peak torque 142 Nm. Besides, the transmission duties are expected to be performed by a 5-speed manual gearbox only.

Assuming by the segment’s most of the compact sedan pricing, the Chevrolet Essentia will kick out from INR 4.5 Lakhs and go up to INR 7.5 Lakhs (Ex-showroom). Upon launch, it will get head to head with the likes of Maruti Suzuki Swift DZire, Honda Amaze, Ford Figo Aspire, Tata Zest and the recently launched Volkswagen Ameo.
