Harley-Davidson CKD Models Get Costlier Post Custom Duty Revision

Harley-Davidson India which offers models like the Street 750, cruisers from the Sportster and Softail range as the CKD brought products in the lineup, has updated their prices. These models now are priced up to 8 percent dearer than the earlier asking rate as the customs duty on CKD kits has been increased from 10 percent to 15 percent. The revision in prices has been effected from April 1, 2018. The minimum hike in the price of Harley’s entry-level motorcycle, the Street 750 price is INR 8,000 that goes up to INR 86,000 for the Harley Davidson 1200 Custom model.

If compare this price revision with the pricing of mighty sportsbike Suzuki Hayabusa that’s also a CKD offering in the country, you will surprise and tend to think that How the Japanese two-wheeler manufacturer manages to price it lower. The answer is, the customs duty rate on motorcycles which boast engine and gearbox imported as a single unit is lower rather than brought separately. Such models witnesses the decrement of 5 percent from earlier 30 to 25 percent. It is the only reason that the vehicles from brands like Triumph and Harley-Davidson attracts 15 percent duty charge as compared to the 10 percent earlier.
