Tata Motors-owned Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) is planning to make its entry in the pure electric car segment. According to a report from The Times, the British firm is currently in a discussion with the other two rivals, BMW and Ford to set up a huge electric battery plant for manufacturing the emission free cars.
It was recent in the news, the largest electric car manufacturer, Tesla has geared up to establish the world’s largest lithium-ion battery plant and will produce all of its vehicle’s battery in near future on its own. The JLR in association with the American and the German firm also has the same intention.
It has to be seen that since the past few years the automobile sector is swiftly moving towards the less or zero emission vehicles. Even a few countries have banned some of the diesel-powered vehicles in their major cities, as the heavy diesel motors produce emission on a large scale.
In India, few major cities including Delhi & NCR have recently banned the diesel powered vehicle with the capacity of more than 2.0-litre. These regulation norms strongly affected the SUV market and their makers are forced to find the other option. As most of the OEMs have introduced the petrol version of their heavy diesel vehicles as a substitute.

Still, the country is looking to move forward with the emission-free or electric cars. Even the Indian government is providing subsidies for the electric powered cars to the OEMs, in order to lure the carmakers. Recently, the government of India offers the free land to the Tesla to set up the plan in India.
Coming back to the news, currently, the German carmaker, BMW gets the electric batteries from Samsung, while the American auto giant, Ford sources the batteries from LG for the Focus Electric. About the British firm, JLR does not offer any electric powered vehicle. Building their own vehicle batteries not only reduce the cost of the car but will also speed up the process of bringing the emission-free cars to the market.
More on it, has yet-to-be-revealed by the JLR, though, it is expected that the company will be the first among the three of developing an electric car model that will be based around the F-Pace Crossover. As neither of the rest two is actively working on the electric SUV or Crossover.
