Next-gen Honda CR-V To Receive 65 percent Localization in India

According to an online journal, Livemint, the 2017 Honda CR-V is expected to be launched by next year in India, receiving up to 65 percent localization. It means that the car will be assembled in the local manufacturing facility in the country. It will be launched in US and thereafter it will make its way to the other international markets.

The next-gen Honda CR-V is said to be based on the tenth-gen Honda Civic’s platform. The engine lineup will include i-VTEC naturally aspirated engines, turbocharged petrol engines as well as turbodiesel options, with 1.5- to 2.4-litre displacements. The automaker has also planned to bring a hybrid variant incorporated with a 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine coupled with a electric motor.

The exterior looks quite similar to the tenth generation Honda Civic and the present CR-V model. Several spy shots reveal the body structure along with the accessories attached to the exterior. The front fascia has been seen with sleek LED headlamps, redesigned bumper with more sculpted features and larger intakes in order to make it more sporty. The side profile gets less tuning and remains similar to the current model.

The rear-profile gets a new L-shaped taillights inspired from the new Civic and the Acura Concept SUV-X. As of now, the interior details are yet to be disclosed. Some reports hint that a three-row version will be offered in few specific markets.

According to a dealer, “Honda needs to be faster. They are slow to react to customer’s demands. An average car buyer expects a host of bells and whistles in their cars and that’s one of the reasons why a Baleno scores over a Jazz.”

Puneet Gupta, associate director, IHS Automotive stated that, “ It is critical that in order to boost sales, Honda follows a staggered approach and introduces new models at a gap of every 10 to 12 months. Honda has tasted success with most of the recent launches. The introduction of next generation models should help them take a big leap forward.”
