Skoda has started to assemble a new 1.0-litre petrol unit in the entire Octavia range, replacing the existing 1.2-litre TSI petrol engine. The Czech Republic automaker believes that the new engine is fast and efficient than the existing engine. As of now, in the first phase, only few countries have been benefited with the new engine assembly. These countries are Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary, Romania and the UK. These countries have tasted the new petrol mill. Now, Skoda is also looking to expand the availability in other European and Asian nations including India. The small three-cylinder engine is said to be good for fuel economy and performance.
The 1.0-litre three-cylinder TSI Petrol motor is good enough to propel a maximum power output of 115 PS and a peak torque of 200 Nm. The automaker claims that the new engine help[s the Octavia to sprint 0-100 kmph in 9.9 seconds. The engine is further mated to a six-speed manual gearbox as standard, while a 7-speed DSG automatic is available as option on upper trims.
Presently, Skoda Octavia offers three engine choices: 1.4 TSI, 1.8 TSI and 2.0 TDI. The entry-level 1.4-litre TSI petrol delivers 148 bhp power at 4500 rpm and 250 Nm peak torque at 1,500 rpm. It is mated to a six-speed manual transmission with front wheel drive. The 1.8-litre TSI petrol produces 177 bhp at 4500 rpm and 250Nm of torque at 1250 rpm, comes paired with a seven-speed automatic transmission. While, the 2.0-litre TDI diesel unit makes up to 141 bhp at 4000 rpm and 320Nm of torque at 1750 rpm. It gets mated to either a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission.
The Octavia 1.0-litre TSI model comes at a starting price of £16,660 in the UK (Rs. 15.97 lakh in India). In India, the Skoda Octavia 1.4 TSI Ambition trim is available at a price of Rs. 16.58 lakh, while the top-end 2.0 TDI CR AT Style Plus version is available for Rs. 22.41 lakh (ex-showroom prices, Delhi).
