The Czech automobile manufacturer, Skoda has launched a new special edition model named the Rapid Rider. It is priced at INR 6.99 lakhs and is expected to help in increasing sales of brand’s mid-size sedan, the Rapid. As compared to the base Rapid Active petrol variant, the Rapid Rider is about INR 1 lakh less expensive at pricing front.
It is available to purchase in two colour options of Candy White and Carbon Steel, which is further complemented by elements like all-black grille, black decals on the doors, blacked-out B-pillars and trunk lip as well. In addition to this, the limited-run model is equipped with the similar 15-inch steel wheels with wheel covers being offered on the base Rapid Active variant.
Inside the cabin, the Skoda Rapid 1.6 MPI Rider Edition gets a dual-tone theme. The dashboard here is finished in Ebony Sand (black) in contrast with the Ivory Slate (white) upholstery. However, the scuff plates here is defining it as Rapid (inscribed on it).
On the feature front, the Rapid Rider shares almost all its attributes with the Rapid Active trim. It gets rear parking sensors, dual front airbags, ABS, rear defogger and an anti-glare rearview mirror as safety features. While, attributes such as a tilt and telescopic adjustable power steering, central locking, a front and rear-centre armrest, a 2-DIN audio system with USB AUX and Bluetooth compatibility, four speakers and rear AC vents are being offered as standard considering comfort and convenience of the occupants.

Under the hood, the standard Skoda Rapid is powered by both diesel and petrol options. It is offered with a combination of a 1.6-litre petrol with a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic gearbox transmission and 1.5-litre diesel option with a 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic gearbox unit as well. On the other hand, the Skoda Rapid is on sale with a single 1.6-litre petrol engine in association with 5-speed manual gearbox. The said powertrain is slated to return power output of 105hp and 153Nm of peak torque.
Priced at INR 7.99 lakhs, the Skoda Rapid takes competition with the likes of Hyundai Verna (INR 8.09-11.70 lakh), Maruti Suzuki Ciaz (INR 8.19-9.98 lakh), Toyota Yaris (INR 9.29-12.85 lakh) and Honda City (INR 9.81-12.86 lakh) as well in its petrol-manual midsize sedan segment. While the newly introduced limited edition Rapid Rider model to undercut models such as the Honda Amaze (INR 5.93-7.81 lakh) and the Maruti Suzuki Dzire (INR 5.82-8.22 lakh) belongs to compact sedans family. It is to be noted that all the mentioned prices here are ex-showroom, Delhi.
