Tata Motors upcoming compact sedan, Kite 5 has been spied testing several times ahead of its launch which is scheduled for festive season this year. This time the heavily camouflaged test mule has been teased near pune by one of the MotorBeam reporters. This sub 4-meter sedan had been spied before without any camouflage, Tata Kite 5 in Blue Shade.
One of the most anticipated models by Tata, the new compact sedan is based on the same platform that underpins the recently launched hatchback, Tiago, and is codenamed as Kite 5. Tata had also organised a name suggestion quize for Kite 5 and shortlisted three names - the Canvas, Dribble and Ingrid.
First showcased at Delhi Auto Expo this year, Kite 5 features Tata’s new design ideology, it measures 3,995 mm in length, 1,647 mm in width and 1,535 mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,450 mm. It also gets a class-leading boot space of 420-liters.
Safety package of Kite 5 includes, dual-airbags (for driver and front occupant), Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) along with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), and Corner Stability Control (CSC).
Kite 5 is also expected to come integrated with an 8-speaker Harman audio system with turn-by-turn navigation, while a touchscreen infotainment system will be offered with top-end trim.
The upcoming sub 4-meter compact sedan will be offered with both petrol and diesel powertrains. The 1.2-litre 3-cylinder petrol engine delivers a maximum power of 83.8 bhp at 6,000 rpm and a peak torque of 114 Nm at 3,500 rpm. Whereas, the all-new 1.5-litre 3-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine that develops 69 bhp of maximum power and 140 Nm of torque. A 5-speed manual transmission is confirmed, while an AMT option is also in the list. Both the powertrains are come with multi-drive modes - Eco and City.
The price of Kite 5 is yet-to-be-announced by the company. However, when launched it will be slotted between company’s sub-4m sedan Indigo eCS and Tata Zest, and will go against the cars, such as the top-in segment Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire, Volkswagen Ameo, Ford Aspire and Honda Amaze.
