It has been more than 20 years for Indica and Indigo eCS in the Indian market. Tata Motors has now discontinued the production of these two models.
On the occasion, the Tata Motors spokesperson mentioned, "With the changing market dynamics and the evolution of Tata Motors' design language towards impactful design, we have decided to phase out the Indica and the Indigo eCS."
Although the production has been discontinued by the company, it will still help the existing owners of the cars in service.
He added, "We will continue to serve our extended family of Indica and Indigo customers by providing them the necessary service support."
The Indica was first revealed during the 1998 Auto Expo and appreciated by many with surprise. The Indica was styled by Italian design house I.DE.A and it was the first homely-grown car in the country. It was available with well-measured dimensions and great inside space. Further, it was launched in December 1998 and gave a big competition to Maruti 800 with a price margin of Rs 30,000. The first Indica model had the teething issues, but the V2 model with 2001 update had created a great run for the company.

On the other hand, the Indigo eCS was introduced with the tag of the first compact sedan of the country from Tata. Tata gave a tough competition to other companies with the launch of Indigo under four meters in length, attracting excise benefits and with a 380-liter boot. Both the cars were updated in the year 2013 under Tata's Horizonext program, where it received paint options, enhanced suspension, graphic design and a revised gearbox. In the production period of Indigo eCS and Indica, both the cars attracted the taxi market a lot with the 1.4-litre common-rail diesel motor.
