Volkswagen has launched the 3rd-gen of the 2018 Touareg, a flagship SUV during an event in Beijing, China. The Touareg is first time debuted in 2002 and later updated in 2007 and got a generation change in 2010. The 2018 variant of the full-size SUV is a complete separation from its predecessor. The 2018 Touareg takes inspiration from Volkswagen’s MLB Evo platform which further develops other SUVs as well as the Audi Q7, Q5, Bentley Bentayga and the new Porsche Cayenne. The all-new design takes inspiration from the smaller Tiguan SUV which is sold in the country. Concerning the front end, it takes a chrome-slated frameless grille which looks amazing in relation to the LED DRLs headlamps. The side profile is advanced by the clear shoulder line which is placed just above the large, round wheel arches placed up to 21-inch alloy wheels and door handles, relying on the variant type. To the rear, new LED tail lamps have the similar appearance to the Q7’s units.
The 2018 Touareg is increased in size and has dimension specs of 4878mm x 1984mm x 1702mm (LxWxH) which is 44mm wider and 77mm longer than the previous model. Although, the height of the car is shortened by 7mm. The dimension increase has ended with a bigger boot which is replaced 697 litres to 810 litres in the new model as compared to the previous-gen SUV.

Inside, it takes a 15-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 12-inch digital instrument cluster, a customizable 15-inch screen placed in the central console, and controlling on various functions like seat massage functions, air conditioning, and smartphone integration.
The next-gen Touareg as well takes a range of assistance systems including Roadwork Lane Assist, Front Cross-Traffic Assist and Night Vision assistance system. It also takes an electromechanically-controlled anti-roll bar, active all-wheel steering system, and air suspension.
Volkswagen flagship SUV will be launched in Europe with a 3.0L V6 diesel engine in 231PS and 286PS states of tune. This engine gets a 367PS plug-in hybrid powertrain which is under-development in China. For other markets, it will get a 340PS V6 petrol and 421PS V8 diesel engine options. The engines come mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive is available as standard.

However, the German carmaker unveiled the previous generations of the Touareg in the country, the chances to bring the new generation here in India is less.
