Meizu has confirmed the information while responding to a query of whether Meizu 17 is coming or not as the successor of Meizu 16 series. Wong stated in a response, the company is planning to launch Meizu 16S in May to commemorate the 16th anniversary of Meizu so the company has dropped the plan of “17” moniker for its upcoming flagship. He further added that the Meizu S version will come with the same design as Meizu 16 series and the company will be focusing only on internal upgrades.
Meizu is not the first smartphone player that is planning to offer Snapdragon 8150 in its next flagship. The other players such as Motorola and Xiaomi are also planning to deliver Snapdragon 8150 SoC in its upcoming flagship ‘Odin’ (codename) and Xiaomi Mi 9 respectively. The upcoming Motorola flagship device has been codenamed with Odin which is likely to come with 5G MotoMod support and Qualcomm Snapdragon 8150 SoC.
It is being speculated that the Qualcomm would unveil the Snapdragon 8150 SoC most probably in the coming month but the official information is yet to be revealed. The 8150 chipset is likely to be based on TSMC’s 7nm process which would compete with Exynos 9820 from Samsung, Kirin 980 from Huawei and A12 from Apple.
