Samsung, the renowned Korean smartphone maker, has finally launched its magnum opus, Samsung Galaxy S8, and Galaxy S8+, that will go on sale from 21st April. The launch of both the flagship handsets has ended the months of rumors, speculation, and anticipation of Samsung smartphone fans all across the globe. Both, the Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+, will be made available in Midnight Black, Orchid Grey, Arctic Silver, Coral Blue and Maple Gold colors. The Galaxy S8 measures 148.9x68.1x8mm and weighs 155 grams. The Galaxy S8+ measures 159.5x73.4x8.1mm and weighs 173 grams.
At the launch event, the company declared that the latest Galaxy S8 series smartphones have laid the foundation of a new era in the smartphone world. Apart from both the Samsung mobiles the company also showcased its in-house voice-based virtual assistant named Bixby, which makes its debut on the flagship Galaxy S8 smartphones. The Samsung's Bixby is very much similar to the other voice-based virtual assistants powered by artificial intelligence including Apple's Siri, Google Assistant, Microsoft Cortana and Amazon's Alexa. The Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ will come with some pre-installed apps that will work with Bixby.
Proving many rumors true, the all-new Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ has been incorporated with iris recognition feature, which was earlier seen on the Samsung Galaxy Note 7. The iris recognition feature basically scans iris of the user to unlock the device, verify Samsung account, and more. The handsets also have Facial recognition technology that can be used for biometric authentication by the users. Apart from these, the latest Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+, come embedded with the ultra-modern fingerprint scanner, located at the back.
The another amazing feature that has been included in both the latest Samsung Galaxy smartphone is Samsung DeX, this is similar Microsoft Continuum that allows users to use the smartphone like a computer by docking it to monitor, keyboard, and mouse. Similar to the previously launched Galaxy S7, the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ are dust and water resistant with IP68 certification. Both the handsets operate on the company's UI based on the latest Android 7.0 Nougat.

Going to the other specifications, the latest Samsung Galaxy S8 comes with a 5.8-inch QHD+ (1440x2960 pixels) Super AMOLED display while the Galaxy S8+ has a 6.2-inch QHD+ (1440x2960 pixels) Super AMOLED display. The company has termed these displays as Infinity Displays, that has been protected Corning Gorilla Glass 5. The company ahs claimed that the smartphones are the first to be certified by the UHD Alliance as Mobile HDR Premium. Both these new Samsung mobiles sport 12-megapixel 'Dual Pixel' rear camera with optical image stabilization and a f/1.7 aperture, and on the front, there is an 8-megapixel selfie camera with autofocus and a f/1.7 aperture. The Samsung has declared that the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ will be powered by Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon 835 SoC (2.3GHz Quad + 1.7GHz Quad) in the US, whereas other international markets including India will get the Exynos 8895 SoC (2.35GHz Quad + 1.9GHz Quad). Both the handsets pack 4GB of RAM and come with 64GB inbuilt storage while also supporting expandable storage via microSD card (up to 256GB).
Both the Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+, have 4G LTE connectivity along with i-Fi 802.11ac (2.4GHz, 5GHz), Bluetooth v5.0, USB Type-C, NFC, and GPS. The top smartphone sensors in the handsets are an accelerometer, ambient light sensor, barometer, gyroscope, heart rate sensor, magnetometer, and proximity sensor. Both these Samsung devices also have support for Samsung Pay, with NFC and MST connectivity. The Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ are powered by a 3000mAh and 3500mAh battery respectively, that support wireless charging as well as fast charging.
The company has also declared that the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ will ship with new high-performance earphones tuned by AKG by Harman in the box. Samsung says the earphones have a "comfortable hybrid canal fit for better noise cancellation", and that they will be made from the anti-tangle metal-fabric material. The smartphones have also been empowered with Samsung Connect app that helps you control the compatible IoT gadgets. As stated above, the Samsung has also introduced the Samsung DeX dock, which allows the users to convert their smartphones into a desktop. The Galaxy S8 and S8+ have also been enabled to connect with the new Gear 360. It must be noted that the Samsung has also unveiled at the new Gear 360 at the same event, that is capable of creating 4K 360-degree videos and 15-megapixel photos. It also features support for the new Gear VR with Controller.

The Samsung has not disclosed the pricing details of the latest launched Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+, however, the US carrier pricing has been obtained by the Verge. According to Verge, in the US, the Verizon will ship Galaxy S8 at $720 (Approx. Rs. 46,774), and the Galaxy S8+, the 6.2-inch model will cost $840 (Approx. Rs. 54,566). It must be noted that the Galaxy S8 and S8+ will be made available from April 21, in Midnight Black, Orchid Grey, Arctic Silver, Coral Blue and Maple Gold color options. As of now, Samsung has not revealed the launch plans for the Indian market.
