WhatsApp Starts a New Beta Testing Program on Google Play

Popular messaging service WhatsApp recently got hit by a scam that stole user's personal information without their knowledge. The company is also known for releasing a number of new versions every now and then with enhanced features or some minor bug fixing. All the new versions have always been released by the company either on its official website or via releasing signed APK files much before it officially showcased on Google Play Store.

This allowed WhatsApp to make required changes as well as fix bugs, if any, in the app ahead of a broader availability. However, keeping aside the advantages, one major disadvantage of this process was that every new WhatsApp version released by the company only reached a limited number of users who dedicatedly checked the website often or showed their devotion to download the release from an "untrusted source."

In the latest reports, the Facebook-owned company has now launched an official beta testing program through Google Play to expand the availability of the app to more testers. As per the reports from a reputed Android forum, the official Android beta testing program of WhatsApp doesn't require any user to join any Google+ community or groups in order to participate in the testing process. This new update will enable WhatsApp in rolling out updates to a number of testers automatically and will also reduce the additional work of downloading every new version manually from the company's site or any APK hosting site.

The official WhatsApp testing page requires users to sign in via their Google accounts. As soon as users open the page, they are welcomed by a message that reads - "WhatsApp Inc. has invited you to a testing program for an unreleased version of the WhatsApp Messenger app." WhatsApp also warns users that considering WhatsApp Messenger app is a testing version it may be "unstable or have a few bugs." This has been confirmed by a WhatsApp spokesperson, however, he declined to share additional details.
