Xiaomi, the largest smartphone manufacturer could be planning to add a new budget segment smartphone in its lineup, likely to be dubbed as Redmi S2 in India very soon. The Chinese smartphone manufacturer has recently launched three smartphones in India including Redmi 5, Redmi Note 5 and Redmi Note 5 Pro. As per XDA Developers, the detailed specifications of rumored Redmi S2 have appeared on firmware files obtained by the publication.
The report reveals that the Redmi S2 will be the budget segment smartphone with key highlight features such as Face Unlock and dual rear cameras. As of now, we don’t know information regarding the pricing, launch date and availability of Xiaomi Redmi S2, but the report says that the Chinese company could unveil smartphone exclusively in India and China, as the demand of budget segment smartphones is higher in both the countries. The leaked report suggests that the budget segment smartphone is said to feature dual rear cameras and Face Unlock.
According to the report of XDA Developers, the rumored Redmi S2 is likely to feature a full-screen HD+ display with 18:9 aspect ratio, that means the smartphone does not get a notch on the top of the display. So far, we don’t know the screen size of the smartphone, but it is anticipated that the smartphone will bear a 5.7-inch screen keeping in mind the pricing of the smartphone. The firmware files reveal MSM8953, that means the Xiaomi Redmi S2 will be embedded with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 SoC that we have earlier seen on Redmi Note 5.

The XDA Developers report further suggests that the upcoming budget Xiaomi smartphone will be equipped with 16GB internal storage with the support of memory card and packs a 3,080mAh battery. The RAM capacity of Redmi S2 is not mentioned in the firmware files, it is speculated that it could come in between 2GB and 3GB, as the Chinese company is targeting the budget segment.
Likewise other Xiaomi smartphones it will also run on Android 8.1 Oreo-based MIUI 9. The XDA report also discovered the camera specs of Redmi S2 which is to be considered the key highlights of the upcoming Xiaomi smartphone. The report says that the smartphone will come with dual rear cameras which will include a primary 12-megapixel Sony IMX486 or Omnivision OV12A10. The secondary camera on Redmi S2 will sport a 5-megapixel Samsung S5K5E8. The front-facing camera is said to feature a single 5-megapixel Samsung S5K5E8 sensor, which will be equipped with Electronic Image Stabilization (EIS), portrait mode and the most important face unlock feature that allows users to unlock their smartphone with the help of scanning his/her face.
Xiaomi is considered the largest smartphone manufacturer in India due to its strong sales and offering mid-range segment smartphones. The company has achieved a great milestone in selling Redmi 5, Redmi Note 5 and Redmi Note 5 Pro. The company is currently in the news for its upcoming Mi 6X as Mi A2 scheduled to be launched on 25th April particularly in China.
