In the burgeoning market of wearable devices, the well known watchmaking company: Timex has announced its new timepiece, called Ironman One GPS+. However, the device is not quite same as smartwatches, but it is basically an ideal fitness band. Few days ago, Microsoft band has also been debuted in this segment that might be a better opponent for Timex's new scion.
Talking about the device, which has the ability to make phone calls and its 1.5-inch Mirasol touchscreen will also display new messages, emails as well as other notifications. It is housed with built-in GPS for tracking wear's location, whereby users can also share their location with certain contacts.
The gadget is capable to track user's speed, distance, calories burned and other statistics. It can measure and record all the bodily activities just like the fitness bands such as Fitbit and Jawbone. The device is paired with 4GB of inbuilt storage to keep music, songs and it could be enjoyed by pairing it with a Bluetooth-enabled headphones. The band can also store up to 100 contacts and up to 10 pre-written messages.
The watch has its own 3G radio for connecting the internet even without a phone. As per company, it works on AT&T's network and the cellular functionality has been given for emergency situations rather than for browsing web. It has been said that short message can be sent to a pre-selected contact or chosen contacts in urgent situations.
As of now, Timex Ironman One GPS+ is currently available for pre-order through its website and it will go on sale sometime in November with a price tag of $400. However, it has rugged exterior and similar features to smartwaches, but it is more expensive than Apple Watch and Neptune Pine.
